Iterative frequency-domain ICI canceller for improving DS-CDMA signal transmission performance

Abstract In direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA), frequency-domain equalization (FDE) based on minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion can be applied to exploit the channel frequency-selectivity and therefore can replace the conventional rake combining with a much improved bit error rate (BER) performance. For a small spreading factor, however, the residual inter-chip interference (ICI) after MMSE-FDE degrades its performance improvement. In this paper, the iterative frequency-domain ICI canceller using FDE weights optimized for each iteration is presented. The achievable BER performance using iterative frequency-domain ICI canceller is evaluated by computer simulation.
